Yesterday evening, Donna Jean Godchaux reunited her post-Grateful Dead band, Heart of Gold Band, for a show at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, CA, and the venue’s proprietor Bob Weir joined in the event, which was in honor of Jerry Garcia’s birthday.

The band lineup for the night featured Godchaux along with guitarist Steve Kimock, drummer Greg Anton, Godchaux’s husband and bassist David MacKay and keyboardist Mookie Siegel. As Deadheadland notes, Weir came onstage during the first set to lend a hand on “Scarlet Begonias,” “Ship of Fools,” “West LA Fadeaway” and “New Speedway Boogie.” Watch a video of the first tune above. Keith Godchaux’s brother Brian also joined in on fiddle on that song and several more throughout the night.

In other Weir news, the guitarist was added to the lineup for A Tribute to The Last Waltz 40th Anniversary show at New York’s Lincoln Center this Saturday, August 6. That tribute will also feature The Midnight Ramble Band with Larry Campbell, along with Dr. John, Lucinda Williams, Patty Griffin and more.
