Last night, Aaron Neville celebrated his 75th birthday at Brooklyn Bowl with a celebratory show that featured sets from Dumpstaphunk and George Porter Jr.‘s Runnin’ Pardners, along with sit ins from Dr. John, Eric Krasno and a couple of Neville’s family members, son Ivan and brother Charles.

Also joining Neville on the night was a horn section consisting of JD Chaisson on trumpet, Rick Matt on saxophone and Reggie Watkins on Trombone. The night kicked off with a few tunes of just Neville and the band before the sit ins began with Ivan, who plays in Dumpstaphunk, sitting in on keys for “Hercules.” Ivan then left for a bit, while Dr. John and Charles came on soon after for “Funny How Time Slips Away,” “Stormy Monday,” “Blow Wind Blow,” “My Love for You” and “Hallelujah, I Loved Her So.”

Ivan would return to join his father after that run for the rest of the show, along with Krasno, who lent his guitar to several tunes from Neville’s new album, Apache, “Stompin’ Ground,” “Be Your Man,” “Orchid in the Storm,” “Hard to Believe” and “Heaven.” Krasno produced and co-wrote much of the album.

The night then continued with songs like “Three Little Birds,” “Drift Away,” “Down By the Riverside” and a rendition of “Tell It Like It Is,” Neville’s tune that is celebrating it’s 50th anniversary this year. The night was then closed out with “Amazing Grace.”
