Umphrey’s McGee wrapped up their week of shows with a standout show that included numerous heavy jams in several of the band’s essential live tracks along with a few surprises.

The show opened with a standout pairing of “Wappy Sprayberry” and “Got Your Milk (Right Here),” with the former featuring a foray from the tune’s typically dancey-jam for a dual-guitar attack from Brendan Bayliss and Jake Cinninger, something that would be a theme on the night.

The first set is rounded out by The Police’s “When the World is Running Down” (not played since January) that once again included an extended jam before turning dark, leading into the instrumental “Blue Echo” that preceded the euphoric “Wife Soup” set closer.

Following the eight-song first set, the seven-song second set continued the theme of tight, heavy improvisation as the group kicked things off with the newer “In the Black” before an expansive and electric “Hurt Bird Bath” that featured two fully-fleshed out improv sections.

Safety in Numbers standout “Intentions Clear” provided yet another avenue for improvisation before finding its way into the Joel Cummins-led “Kimble.” From there, the set closed with a lengthy “Phil’s Farm,” the metal-infused “Nopener” and a standout “August,” capped with a solo from Bayliss.

The playful encore of “In the Kitchen” included a foray into Warren G and Nate Dogg’s “Regulate” featuring “Cousin Eli” (Andy Farag) on vocals along with Brendan Bayliss. The song, which only appears with Farag on vocals, hasn’t been performed since Summer Camp 2015.

Umphrey’s returns to the stage on Thursday in Burlington, VT.
