Marc Ford, guitarist, producer and former member of the Black Crowes, has announced his return with The Vulture, his first album since 2014’s Holy Ghost, set for release October 14. The new record features Ford along with The Neptune Blues Club, which includes keyboardist Mike Malone, bassist John Bazz and drummer Anthony Arvizu.

The Vulture sounds like If Jimi Hendrix was signed to Sun Records, but the album was cut at Chess in Chicago,” Ford says of the new album, which features cuts that draw influence from old-school rock-and-roll, R&B, gospel and more, with lyrics like “Got a head full of diamonds/And a nose full of snow/You leave a trail of destruction/Everywhere that you go/Got a shrug of the shoulder/For all that you stole.”

“If Holy Ghost was Sunday morning, then The Vulture is Saturday night,” Ford says. The album was recorded at San Francisco’s Tiny Telephone Studios and produced by John Vanderslice, who’s worked with Spoon, Mountain Goats and St. Vincent, among others. See the album art and tracklist for The Vulture below.

Ford joined the Black Crowes in 1991 and was with the band for their peak successes before launching a solo career starting in 2002. The guitarist has also garnered an NAACP award for his work with Ben Harper and Blind Boys of Alabama on There Will Be A Light.

Ford will return to the road with a run of dates this fall starting in the West in late October and stretching through the South and into the Midwest in late November. “It’s been a few years since I’ve fired up the ole’ road machine, and I’m really excited to get back on tour, play material from my new record, and connect with fans in a few cities I haven’t been through in ages,” Ford tells jambands.com on his return to the road. “This will be fun, I promise.”

Tickets for the tour go on sale this Friday, August 12. See his full tour schedule below.
