Paul McCartney graces the new cover of Rolling Stone and spoke to David Fricke about numerous topics, with a Q&A with the famed Beatle posted to the publication’s website.

Among the highlights include McCartney touching on his current relationship with Yoko Ono. “It’s really good actually,” he said. “My big awakening was, if John loves this woman, that’s gotta be right. I realized any resistance was something I had to overcome. It was a little hard at first. Gradually, we did. Now it’s like we’re mates.”

He also noted that the band felt “threatened” when John Lennon first brought Ono around the band. “She was sitting on the amps while we were recording. Most bands couldn’t handle that. We handled it, but not amazingly well, because we were so tight. We weren’t sexist, but girls didn’t come to the studio – they tended to leave us to it. When John got with Yoko, she wasn’t in the control room or to the side. It was in the middle of the four of us.”

McCartney admits that a tour with fellow Beatle Ringo Starr has “never come up” adding, “I don’t think either of us have ever thought why do it, or why not. It’s just that our roads are parallel, with intersections and diversions.”

The bassist also dishes on his upcoming slot at Desert Trip, joking that it is “fossil rock.” McCartney adds, “but it’s exciting. Definitely gotta ring Neil [Young], say, ‘What do you reckon, man?’”
