Veteran bassist Reed Mathis of Tea Leaf Green, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey and Billy & the Kids, has detailed the debut release from his new project, Electric Beethoven, which reimagines the work of the iconic composer with a dance-music feel and extended improvisations. Their first album, Beathoven is set for release under Mathis’ name on September 30 via Royal Potato Family.

Electric Beethoven made their debut last week at Terrapin Crossroads and at their “Acid Test” at San Francisco’s Outside Lands, along with several teases from Mathis on social media. Their first show teamed Mathis with drummers Jay Lane and Cochrane McMillan, along with keyboardist Todd Stoops and guitarist Clay Welch.

Beathoven features guests musicians like Phish’s Mike Gordon and Page McConnell, Marco Benevento, Joe Russo, Galactic’s Stanton Moore, The Barr Brothers, Greyboy Allstars’ Robert Walter, Matt Chamberlain and more. The record will include the band’s arrangements of Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 3” and “Symphony No. 6.” See the tracklist and guest details below, along with first single “Rebirth” featuring The Barr Brothers and two clips of the band performing live.

Electric Beethoven will also be playing Pennsylvania’s Catskill Chill next month, as well as Brooklyn Comes Alive on October 22.
