Bob Weir’s new solo album, Blue Mountain, will be released on September 30, marking the Grateful Dead guitarist’s first work of entirely new music in three decades, and now a preview of the album has been shared via NPR in the form of lead track “Only a River.”

The tune, which can be heard below, finds Weir in storytelling mode with an acoustic guitar accompanied by The National’s Aaron Dessner and Scott Devendorf, as well as album producer Josh Kaufman, Ray Rizzo and Rob Burger. “Only a River” was one of the tracks that Weir premiered during an intimate New York set earlier this month.

As previously reported, Weir will also head on the road in support of the album with Kaufman members of The National in his “Campfire Tour,” which kicks off October 7 in California. See the tour dates below.
