Last night at the Brenton Skating Plaza in Des Moines, IA, Gov’t Mule continued their tour with supporting act Blackberry Smoke, once again welcoming a member from the opening band for a couple of covers during their encore.

After a packed set that featured the usual Mule staples and covers, with plenty of teases throughout, Warren Haynes and company were joined by Blackberry Smoke guitarist Charlie Starr for a two-song finale that kicked off with Tom Waits’ “Jesus Gonna Be Here” and kept the theme going with ZZ Top’s “Jesus Just Left Chicago,” which featured a lyrical tease of another ZZ Top tune, “Thunderbird.”

Next up for Gov’t Mule is a show at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre with moe. that will be webcast via nugs.net.
