Dave Matthew Band rounded out their two-night stand at Berkeley, CA’s Greek Theatre last night with a surprise sit in from Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir, the first time that Weir or any member of the Dead had joined the band onstage.

The collaborations came a little over halfway through the set, when Matthews and company welcomed out Weir for a cover of Daniel Lanois’ “The Maker,” a DMB rarity which the band hadn’t brought out since early June of last year. Though not a song familiar to the Weir repertoire, it was performed many times by Jerry Garcia and his solo band. Weir and the band stretched the song out to over 12 minutes, with Matthews taking lead vocals and Weir busting out a solo. The rest of the set featured some band staples like “The Stone,” “Crash Into Me,” “What Would You Say,” and the first “Can’t Stop” since last July. The encore closed out the band’s Berkeley run with “Sister” and “Ants Marching.”

Dave Matthews Band continue their West Coast swing with a three-night stand at Washington’s Gorge Amphitheatre this weekend.
