Phish continued their summer closing run at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Colorado and continued the “anything goes” theme they started the previous night.

On this Saturday night, it was the opening “Slave to the Traffic Light” that surprised, marking the first time it has opened a show since November 5, 1988. The anthemic “Slave” was followed by a “Down with Disease” that ventured briefly outside the constraints of the song marking a rare first set jam.

Just the fourth “What’s the Use?” followed before a rocking “Maze.” The rest of the first set was highlighted by an extended “Wolfman’s Brother” and arena rock take on “Rock and Roll.”

The cohesive second set kicked off with “Fuego” before moving into a short, yet funky “Sand.” The following “Blaze On” saw the group stretch their improvisational legs before the centerpiece of the show, “Simple,” delivered the finest jam of the evening. Stretching into a space-funk territory, the jam saw Trey Anastasio joining Jon Fishman on Marimba Lumina.

The rest of the set as anchored by a closing combo of “2001” and “Harry Hood,” which saw Anastasio and Page McConnell pace the final jam to its peak as the song rounds into form late in 2015. The encore of “Squirming Coil” had a bit of a twist, as one by one the band members exited, leaving Mike Gordon (instead of the customary McConnell solo) to close the show with a bass solo.

Phish return to Dick’s tonight.
