Phish’s tour closing run at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park came to a thrilling conclusion last night as the band delivered a second set for the ages, turning it into a “Crosseyed and Painless” teaseathon.

Before that, the first set leaned on many of the band’s finest tunes with early, tight renditions of “Chalk Dust Torture,” “Mike’s Song,” “Weekapaug Groove” and a jammed out “Bathtub Gin” that served as a sign of things to come as the group readied to stretch their legs in the second set.

The first set came to a close with a “Split Open and Melt” and an extended “Tube,” which is becoming somewhat of a regular occurrence this year and is certainly something fans hope to continue in the fall. “Character Zero” brought the solid, entertaining first set to a close.

Over the six song second set, the band showcased some of their finest jamming ability, kicking things off with “Crosseyed and Painless” and stretching the tune out to nearly twenty minutes. The subsequent transition into “Steam” proved seamless before transitioning into another nearly twenty minute jam in “Piper.”

Much like they have throughout the tour, Trey Anastasio jumped back to Jon Fishman’s drum kit to join in on the Marimba Lumina. This time, however, all four members ended up on Fishman’s drum kit for an extended drum jam in “Piper” before all returned to their stations for the transition into “Light.”

A classic jam vehicle in the modern era, “Light” proved up to the task once again, nearing fifteen minutes and dipping into a few “Crosseyed” teases before leading into the rarity “The Lizards” before Anastasio took the lead on a rousing “First Tube” finale that also included “Crosseyed” teases.

The band returned for a “Walls of the Cave” closer in the encore that once again saw a return to “Crosseyed” briefly before the band said goodbye until the fall.
