On November 11, Umphrey’s McGee will release Zonkey, a 12-track studio compilation of their previously performed mashups, marking the first studio output of any of the mashups that have anchored their Halloween runs since 2008.

Taken from the hybrid animal created by cross-breeding two different species of animal (typically a zebra and donkey), Zonkey will span twelve tracks, drawing from their very first mashup show in 2008 with “Sad Clint Eastwood,” bringing together Metallica’s “Sad But True” and the Gorillaz hit “Clint Eastwood.” Also included are earlier cuts like “Sweet Sunglasses,” a three-song combination of “Sweet Dreams,” “Sunglasses at Night” and MGMT’s “Electric Feel.”

The Connecticut rockers are also represented on “Come As Your Kids,” as Umphrey’s mashed up their Oracular Spectacular hit “Kids” with Nirvana’s “Come As You Are” and Dead or Alive’s “You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)” during their Atlanta blowout in 2011.

As for some of the newer picks, Boston’s House of Blues run in 2014 garnered a pair of selections including the first track to be revealed to the public later this week, “National Loser Anthem,” combining Beck’s “Loser” with Radiohead’s “National Anthem” and Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight.” Also included is “Strangletage,” bringing the Beastie Boys’ ‘Sabotage” and Ted Nugent’s “Stranglehold” together. One mashup from their 2015 return to Milwaukee makes the cut as “Can’t Rock My Dream Face,” the Michael Jackson/The Weeknd/Fleetwood Mac concoction, joins four others (“Life During Exodus,” “Ace of Long Nights,” “Electric Avenue to Hell” and “Frankie Zombie”) as those originating in Milwaukee.

Two from Halloween’s past in St. Louis, where they will present new mashups this year, also make the cut as “Bittersweet Haj” (The Verve’s “Bittersweet Symphony” and UM’s own “Hajimemashite”) and “Bulls on the Bus” (Rage Against the Machines’ “Bulls on Parade” and Beastie Boys’ “Mark On the Bus”) round out the compilation.

On the release, Joel Cummins said, ““ZONKEY clearly pays homage to some of our favorite artists and songs. While we’ve tried to reproduce the spirit of the original compositions and recordings, we’ve also tried to have some fun with the structure as we’ve often combined seemingly dissimilar musical elements to create a new vibe altogether.”

Pre-orders for Zonkey will begin on September 9.
