Jack White released his new retrospective collection, Jack White Acoustic Recordings 1998–2016, yesterday, and last night, the guitarist and singer-songwriter appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon for his first ever solo acoustic performance on television and a short chat with Fallon.

White performed a medley of two tunes from the acoustic collection for the show, starting out with “Love is the Truth,” a short song commissioned for a Coke commercial in 2006, and finished up with the Elephant cut “You’ve Got Her In Your Pocket,” which appeared to bring White close to tears. Watch his emotional performance above.

The interview portion of White’s appearance had a decidedly lighter tone, as he told Fallon the story of a flight attendant telling him he should try to get tickets to The Tonight Show while he was in New York. White also talked about his vintage WWI-era acoustic guitar, while Fallon countered with his own guitar, allowing White to get a joke in. Watch their conversation below.
