It appears as if Dave Matthews may have some musical plans for 2017, a year that will find his regular project, Dave Matthews Band, taking time off.

DMBNews.net uncovered the Don’t Give Up Your Day Job podcast featuring drummer Brady Blade, who made his mark with Matthews on his 2003 solo effort Some Devil and the subsequent Dave Matthews and Friends tour.

“Next year, I’m working with Dave,” Blade revealed. “I think he’s got to do another solo record, so we might get together on that.”

Blade also mentioned the Nauts, a band Matthews started with Jakob Dylan and Blade that never materialized into anything. “Some of these songs are some of the best songs I’ve ever heard, because we had no agenda,” he said. “So I’m looking at Dave, who never met Jakob, and they started getting along lyrically, because Dave’s a killer with melodies, and Jakob’s just like his dad, Bob.”

The drummer did note that he hopes something will be released from those sessions.

Some Devil emerged rather spontaneously in 2003, as Matthews came up with a batch of songs that he deemed unfit for the whole band. Those sessions included Trey Anastasio, songwriting partner Tim Reynolds, Tony Hall, Blade, Dirty Dozen Brass Band and many others.
