After performing at the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park, Metallica held a “Fifth Member” show at the intimate Webster Hall in New York, performing just two days before their appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Among the highlights, a rare opener of Budgie’s tune “Breadfan,” the first time the band has played the song since August 13, 2013 and the first time it has opened a show since June 16, 2004. The group also offered up the first “Holier Than Thou” from their self-titled release since 2013 as well.

While the band is in town to promote their forthcoming album, they did so on this night with the live debut of “Moth Into Flame,” the second track released from their new album. The title track, “Hardwired,” appeared in the encore.

Also of note, the rare club show fell on the 30th anniversary of bassist Cliff Burton’s untimely death and the band acknowledged the date by dedicating Master of Puppets standout “Orion” to the late bassist.
