This past weekend, former Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus played two shows with his band The Jicks at San Francisco’s The Chapel in honor of his Pavement bandmate Scott Kannberg’s 50th birthday, and the two musicians ended up playing together onstage for a mini-reunion for Pavement, which disbanded in 1999 before reuniting briefly in 2010.

As Brooklyn Vegan reports, on Saturday, Kannberg (aka Spiral Stairs) joined Malkmus for Pavement’s “Date w/ IKEA,” “Kennel District” and “Summer Babe,” the last of which can be viewed above. The following night saw Malkmus, Spiral Stairs once again collaborate, and former Pavement drummer Gary Young joined in for some tunes, including “Two States,” which can be seen below.

As per BV, both nights featured Malkmus and The Jicks playing covers of some of Kannberg’s favorite acts, including the Grateful Dead, Meat Puppets, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Replacements and more.
