Bob Weir’s Campfire Tour rolled into Brooklyn last night for the first of two shows at Kings Theatre, and the guitarist was reunited with onetime borough resident Aaron Dessner, who was slated to join Weir on the tour but had to cancel due to a family emergency. The night also featured guest vocalist Leslie Mendelson.
The two-set affair was structured similarly to the rest of the tour, with Weir starting the first set with a few solo acoustic songs before welcoming on the whole band for some cuts from his new cowboy songs album Blue Mountain. The second set moved on to the Grateful Dead portion of the night, and Weir brought out Mendelson, who plays with Campfire band guitarist Steve Kimock in his K I M O C K project, for “Brown-Eyed Women” and “Cassidy.” She would later return to help Weir and company close out the show with the encore of “Friend of the Devil.”
Weir and his band return to the Kings Theatre stage tonight.
