After an opening night that included a bevy of new material from their latest Big Boat, Phish once again relied on the more recent side of their catalog on the second of two nights at North Charleston Coliseum.

Kicking things off in the first set, five out of the first seven songs were on the newer side, with the band mixing in cuts like “Blaze On,” “Martian Monster,” “Devotion to a Dream,” “Waking Up Dead” and “Things People Do.”

The set did eventually take a decidedly old school turn with drummer Jon Fishman inserting some of his meandering Rift tune “Lengthwise” into “Maze” before leading the ensemble on his new hysterical musing, “Ass Handed.” A one-two punch of “Carini” and “Wolfman’s Brother” brought the set to a close.

The second set kicked off with a tune that just missed the cut on Big Boat, “Mercury” before finding its way into “Twist.” The surprise of the night came following a brief “Twist” as Page McConnell led the band on the first performance of Big Boat standout “I Always Wanted It This Way” before the group slowed things down with “Miss You.”

The final four songs after the tender “Miss You” saw them honor their previous record Fuego with the title track before dropping into a funky “Sand” that preceded the “Joy” and “Possum” set closer. The quartet returned later on for a lone “Good Times Bad Times” encore before departing.

The band returns to the stage tonight in Jacksonville, FL.
