Phish continued their fall tour with the lone one-off date of the run with their debut in Jacksonville, FL the Veterans Memorial Arena.

Among the highlights, early favorites like “Kill Devil Falls,” “Moma Dance” and “Back on the Train” to get things going before the funk theme continued with “Undermind.” Mike Gordon led the quarter on the bluegrass tune “Nellie Kane” before the first extended jamming of the evening took place in “Stash.”

“Petrichor” made its second appearance of the run, previously making its live Phish debut in Charleston. A “Mike’s Groove” with “Bouncing Around the Room” sandwiched between the two bookends closed out the tight, well-played set.

With not much improv in the first set, Phish launched into “Crosseyed and Painless” to kick off the second set, signaling the start of a jam theme that would last most of the set, as the group would quote the Talking Heads lyric “still waiting” throughout. That included “Steam,” which followed after a brief improv section before “Piper” emerged from the smoke-filled stage.

From there, the group went into song mode, sprinkling in the Fuego track “Wingsuit,” as well as “Sparkle” and “The Wedge,” which all preceded Page McConnell’s moment on “Wading in the Velvet Sea.” The “Run Like an Antelope” set closer brought the energy back, capping off the set with more “Crosseyed” teases.

While the group would’ve customarily come out with a standalone “Character Zero” encore, the quartet decided to pay homage to one of Jacksonville’s most notable musical products, covering Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Ballad of Curtis Loew” to kick off the encore prior to the “Zero” closer.

Phish’s fall tour continues October 18 in Nashville, TN.
