Former Pearl Jam drummer Dave Abbruzzese responded to the band’s recent nomination for entry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In the initial list of inductees, the four core members—Eddie Vedder, Mike McCready, Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament—were listed as well as Ten drummer Dave Krusen and current drummer Matt Cameron.

“If there is still a part of the band that remembers how hard we worked,” Abbruzzese wrote on Facebook. “How much blood and how much sweat, they will do the right thing.” He also went on to add later, “The members of Pearl Jam have got to know what’s the right thing to do. They can’t justify ignoring my contributions. Like me or not.”

Abbruzzese first connected with Pearl Jam shortly following the release of Ten, after Krusen exited and Smashing Pumpkins’ Matt Chamberlain filled in briefly. Abbruzzese would spend the next few years with the band, contributing to records like Vs. and Vitalogy before being fired in 1994. Abbruzzese was replaced by Jack Irons, who would last until 1998 before Cameron took over, holding the post for the last 18 years. Irons was previously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Recently, during their headlining set at Telluride’s Ride Festival, the band paid homage to Abbruzzese with a rare performance of “Angel,” one of the few tunes he contributed to the band. “It was written by the guy who was our drummer, Dave Abbruzzese,” Vedder said that day. “We wish him well.”
