The String Cheese Incident headlined Suwannee Hulaween last night with three sets in Live Oak, FL with an event dubbed “Stringier Things,” a play on the hit Netflix show Stranger Things that told the story of young kids in the 80s. Keeping with that spirit, Cheese delivered a set full of 80s hits with some special guests along the way.

Early on, however, the band dipped into some of their older material with takes on “Rhum ‘N Zouc” as well as “Restless Wind” before inviting Jen Hartswick on stage to handle vocals on Stevie Wonder’s “I Wish,” the first of a couple Wonder tunes on the night.

Kicking off the Stringier Things set, Cheese welcomed singers Rhonda Thomas and Tony White as well as the Antibalas horns to beef up their sound as they ripped into tunes like Eurythmics’ “Would I Lie to You?” and The Clash’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go” early on. Other tunes like Diana Ross’s “Upside Down” and Thomas Dolby’s “She Blinded Me with Science” followed before more familiar cuts like “Let’s Groove Tonight,” “Sweet Child O’Mine” and “Love Shack.”

Cheese then closed the set with a massive 80s melody that touched on songs from David Bowie, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Michael Jackson, Rick Astley, Talking Heads and many more before departing.

The guest spots continued in the third set as Thomas and White again joined in on “Sweet Spot” before once again covering Stevie Wonder in the encore with a grand finale of “Signed, Sealed, Delivered.”
