Earlier this month, The Avett Brothers teamed up with Warren Haynes for Dear Jerry 2, a tribute to the Jerry Garcia, and now it seems that some of the late songwriter’s compositions have been put into the Avett’s rotation, as the group covered Garcia’s “Mission in the Rain” twice this past weekend.

First, on Friday night at Jacksonville, FL’s Veterans Memorial Arena, the band played “Mission in the Rain,” along with an encore of a Jerry Garcia Band staple in Bob Dylan’s “I Shall Be Released.” “Mission” would return again last night at Sprint Pavilion in Charlottesville, VA.

Saturday brought another JGB favorite with a cover of Marvin Gaye’s “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You),” but not before the brothers would bring out their father Jim Avett, with whom they have collaborated both live and in the studio before. The elder Avett, along with other members of the family, helped out on traditionals “It’s Me” and “Peace in the Valley.”
