On November 11, the Hart Valley Drifters’ Folk Time will be unearthed, which features some of the earliest recordings from Jerry Garcia.

The album, recorded a full three years before Garcia would join the Grateful Dead, is now available to stream via NPR.

Recorded in 1962 in the Bay Area, the recording finds a 20-year old Garcia teaming with future Grateful Dead songwriting partner Robert Hunter and David Nelson (of New Riders of the Purple Sage) as well as Norm Van Maastricht and Ken Frankel for a sixteen-song compilation that leans on traditional tunes played within their folk sound.
