Temple of the Dog kicked off their very first tour together last nigth with the first of two shows at Philadelphia’s Tower Theatre. The show, which featured Chris Cornell fronting the members of Pearl Jam minus Eddie Vedder, called on much of the material from their lone album release in 1991 as well as a host of other tunes.

Along the way, the group touched on several Mother Love Bone songs, a group that predated Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Temple of the Dog as frontman Andy Wood (who would later pass away, inspiring the Temple of the Dog record) led a group that featured Pearl Jam’s Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament.

Cornell led the band on MLB tracks like “Stardog Champion,” “Stargazer,” “Heartshine” and “Holy Roller,” among others. The 23-song set also featured plenty of covers, from Free (“I’m a Mover”) and David Bowie (“Quicksand”) to Led Zeppelin (“Achilles Last Stand”), Syd Barrett (“Baby Lemonade”), The Cure (“Fascination Street”) and Black Sabbath (“War Pigs”).

The run continues tonight with another stop at the Tower.
