Last night at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, just days before the major Presidential election, a number of musicians came together to raise voting awareness at an event dubbed Jam the Vote.

With the house band comprised of Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Blind Boys of Alabama (guitarist Sam Cohen also sat in throughout the night with the house band), a number of special guests joined the group for a host of covers throughout the evening. Among the highlights, Matisyahu leading an early rendition of “Crazy Bald Head” backed by Marc Brownstein, DJ Logic, Eric Krasno and Aaron Dugen. Amy Helm lead a take on “Corrina, Corrina” and Nicole Atkins took vocal duty on “When I Get Low, I Get High.”

Valerie June stood out with the Sam Cooke classic “A Change is Gonna Come” before Blind Boys of Alabama highlighted on “If I Had a Hammer” and “Amazing Grace.”

George Porter Jr. then emerged for “People Say,” putting together a funk band consisting of Randolph, Krasno, Ivan Neville, Joe Russo and Win Butler. Antibalas’ Amayo teamed with Tom Hamilton on “Iko Iko” backed by Eric Krasno and members of Blind Boys of Alabama and Gogol Bordello’s Eugene Hutz led the proceedings on “Higher Ground” after Ed Sharpe’s Alex Ebert took the crowd through his band’s own, “Home.”

Arcade Fire’s Win Butler, a late add to the show, collaborated with Tom Hamilton on Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA” before the finale of “Peace, Love & Understanding” led by The Hold Steady’s Craig Finn, followed by “America the Beautiful.” A number of musicians that appeared on the night found their way on stage for the finale, including Joe Russo and Butler, who both played drums and percussion on the song.

The night closed with an impromptu jam from Robert Randolph, Amayo and DJ Logic, who played the crowd out into the night.
