Phish lyricist Tom Marshall has launched the first episodes of his new podcasts, Under the Scales, featuring stories from Marshall’s past with the band including songwriting excursions with Trey Anastasio, his time on the road with the band and much more.

The first episode is available to stream below, as Marshall recounts a series of songwriting trips in 1997 with Anastasio that yielded tunes that would later appear on the band’s 1998 record Story of the Ghost like “Vultures” and “Water in the Sky.” Marshall samples a few early versions of the songs as well.

In the second episode, Marshall interviews Phish fan Derek Gregory about the hows and whys of “riding the rail” at Phish shows.
