Mike Gordon’s fall tour continued on Saturday night with a stop at the Majestic Theatre in Madison, WI as the Phish bassist highlighted the show with the debut of a new original “Check Your Pepper” in the first set.

Speaking to Jambands.com about the song, Gordon says “it’s almost like a vamp and a hook, rather than a song.” He praised the song’s flexibility, saying, “We could play it for a whole set or we could play it for 30 seconds in between other songs. I like the open-endedness of that.”

Also of note thus far in the tour is the debut of Daniel Lanois’ “The Maker,” which premiered last night in Chicago at Park West. Gordon has previously played the song with Phish and members of Dave Matthews Band in 1994.
