Every year since 2005, Relix has partnered with Del McCoury to present a Cold Turkey Thanksgiving weekend audio special. Over the years we’ve offered live cuts, studio favorites and even some unreleased material. (We were proud to debut the bluegrass icon’s collaboration with Preservation Hall Jazz Band a few years back.)

Today’s Cold Turkey Thanksgiving kicks off with Del McCoury Band’s version of “I Fell in Love,” a Carlene Carter tune from the ’90s that features a fun call and response from the members of DMB. Next up, Del and the boys unearth a never published song, “First One Back in Town,” which they released as a single earlier this month. In recent years, we’ve turned our attention to the Travelin’ McCourys on Thanksgiving and this year we’re excited to present their covers of Grateful Dead’s “Cumberland Blues” and “Loser.” (Ronnie McCoury plays a Mandocaster on the latter songs). Finally, we wrap things up with four Travelin’ McCourys live tracks, two from Evanston, IL’s Evanston Space and a pair from Cumberland, MD’s annual DelFest. In related mews, Relix.com is also proud to debut a new video of Travelin’ McCourys performing “Loser” with Jeff Austin.
