Jim James’ solo tour came to his hometown of Louisville, KY, last night with a show at the Palace Theatre, and the My Morning Jacket frontman marked the occasion with an extended encore featuring a slew of covers, including James’ debut of a Bob Dylan tune.

After a set that leaned on his solo work, including tracks from his recent release Eternally Even, James came out for the encore and expressed his gratefulness to be back in Louisville before starting into “Changing World,” the song he wrote with lyrics from Woody Guthrie as part of the 2012 New Multitudes tribute project. James’ debut cover of Dylan’s “The Times They Are A-Changing” followed, an appropriate nod to the date, which marked the 40th anniversary of The Band and Dylan’s Last Waltz concert.

The encore also featured songs from James’ former supergroup Monsters of Folk, The Velvet Underground and another Dylan tribute in The New Basement Tapes’ “Down on the Bottom.”
