The rumors of an Allman Brothers Band reunion have been swirling this year, with Oteil Burbridge saying that Gregg Allman reached out to him about the possibility, and Allman himself saying that the members have been talking about a major city tour in 2017. Now, it seems that guitarist Derek Trucks, a major part of the last iteration of the band that called it quits in 2014, won’t be a part of any reunion that may happen next year.

In an interview with the Boston Herald (via JamBase), Trucks was paraphrased as saying he isn’t interested in the reunion, relating that “he loves the guys and music, but the former ABB guitarist has a group of his own now.”

That group, of course, is Tedeschi Trucks Band, who will round out their scheduled appearances this year with a three-night run this weekend at Boston’s Orpheum Theatre with special guests Jorma Kaukonen and Amy Ray. In the Herald interview, Trucks also expressed his liking for multi-night runs like this one, saying they cause the group to “work harder as a band. It means every sound check turns into a two-hour rehearsal. But a lot of people come to multiple shows and a lot of people come to just one. That means each night has to be special.”

Trucks also hinted at a possible future teaching career, noting that the band had a friend in Jeff Lockhart at Berklee College of Music and that Trucks has been asked to come in to teach a class. ““I’m sure down the road I’ll look at it,” he says. “But when I have any break, it’s all about the kids. Time on the road is about the band and time at home is all about being parents.”
