After the news last week that New York passed a law criminalizing ticket bots, legislation has made it through Congress with the House of Representatives passing a bill that the Senate recently approved putting that into effect for the entire country. The bill will now make its way to President Obama, who will confirm it as a law.

As Consequence of Sound reports, the new law will consider ticket bots “an unfair and deceptive practice” and in violation of the Federal Trade Commission Act. Users of ticket bots will be prosecuted accordingly. The bill’s Republican sponsor, Kansas Senator Jerry Moran, noted that the legislation will “level the playing field” for those seeking tickets to popular events.

New York recently criminalized ticket bots, with governor Andrew Cuomo saying, “It’s predatory, it’s wrong and, with this legislation, we are taking an important step towards restoring fairness and equity back to this multi-billion dollar industry.”
