George Porter Jr. has confirmed the details for his 69th birthday celebration. The founding Meters bassist will host his annual hometown jam at New Orleans’ The Maple Leaf on Monday, December 26. This year Porter will perform with his trio at 10pm. Porter has performed regularly at The Maple Leaf since 1985 and has hosted a Monday night residency at the club recently. His birthday trio will feature members of his Runnin’ Pardners. In addition, Porter and his wife Ara will host a “pre-50th anniversary” wedding celebration in the back of Frenchy Galleries at 8314 Oak St at 8pm.

As he ofen does when he is not on the road, last night Porter participated in The Maple Leaf’s regular Trio Thursday night residency. Percussionist Mile Dillon and Joe Russo’s Almost Dead guitarist Scott Metzger both joined Trio staples Porter and Vidacovich during their set.

This evening The Maple Leaf will present the Big, Dumb, Rocking, Holiday Spectacular! with Mike Dillon Band, Jerk Offisers and Dirty Mouth. Meanwhile, Porter will ring in 2017 by participating in Dumpstaphunk’s “Foundation of Funk & Dumpstaphunk” show at New Orleans’ Joy Theater. Zigaboo Modeliste (The Meters), and Eddie Roberts (The New Mastersounds), Robert Walter (The Greyboy Allstars) also also on the bill.
