John Zorn has confirmed the daily lineups for his annual End of the Year Improv nights at New York’s The Stone. As in years past, the free-form shows will benefit Zorn’s haven for experimental music. Zorn, who founded the space, will take part in each of the end of the performances, which are slated for December 29-31. Of note, on December 30 Yeah Yeah Yeahs drummer Brian Chase will perform with the saxophonist as part of an ensemble that also includes: Chris Speed (sax) Jim Staley (trombone) Brian Marsella (piano) Kris Davis (piano) Brian Chase (drums) Matt Hollenberg (guitar) Ikue Mori (electronics) and Okkyung Lee (cello).

On New Year’s Eve proper, Zorn will play with two different combos. His 8pm show will feature Sonic Youth guitarist Thurston Moore, who had become a regular part of The Stone’s End of the Year Improv shows, cello player Okkyung Lee and electronics wiz Ikue Mori. Then, at 11pm, Zorn will ring in 2017 with legendary dub bassist Bill Laswell and drummer Milford Graves.
