A Maryland family recently received a check for $10,000 from Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder after the singer read a Craigslist message from Tyshika Britten, the mother of six who was facing eviction from her home in Oxon Hill, MD.

As The Washington Post reported, Britten’s message went viral with over hundreds of people sending in gifts and aid from around the world, Vedder included.

“I was just so moved by the story and what this mother did for her children,” Vedder told The Post. “I thought those kids must be so proud of their mother for reaching out. That takes a lot of courage.”

Vedder went on to add that he knows the money won’t solve all of the family’s financial issues, but hoped it serves as a “tourniquet” to help the family gain some control and normalcy.
