Electron celebrated the holidays with a special show at Ardmore, PA’s The Ardmore Music Hall on Friday, December 23. The Philadelphia-area livetronica group has changed lineups a few times since first coming together in 2000, but has solidified in recent years as a partnership between the Disco Biscuits bassist Marc Brownstein, Biscuits keyboardist Aron Magner, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead guitarist Tom Hamilton and Lotus drummer Mike Greenfield. Both Hamilton’s Americana act American Babies and Blendmode supplied support duties.

During their headlining set, Electron nodded to the holidays by throwing in a few seasonal favorites and welcoming some guests to the stage. Near the end of the their first set, the group welcomed out Brit Floyd saxophonist Jay Davidson for a take on “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” and a set-closing run through the Grateful Dead’s “Shakedown Street.” Both Hamilton and the members of the Disco Biscuits have been performing the song with Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann recently and Hamilton also plays the tune in JRAD.

Then, at the start of their second set, Electron brought out Hamilton’s old Brothers Past bandmate, keyboardist Tom McKee for a version of the BP Catharsis song “Boy.” The ensemble returned to the holidays at the night by weaving teases of the Dead’s “The Other One,” the Christmas favorite “Linus & Lucy” and “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” into the show-closing “Plan B.”
