On Thursday evening, Phil Lesh and Friends performed the first of two shows in their Hawaiian run. The initial gig took place at the Castle Theatre in Kahului, with Lesh’s son Grahame, Scott Law and Ross James all appearing on guitar. Jason Crosby contributed keyboards, while Alex Koford was behind the kit. The show opened with a version of “Jack Straw” with Law and Grahame on vocals which segued into “Like a Rolling Stone” which was sung by James. The set later closed with James’ original “West,” which led into “Uncle John’s Band,” in which everyone shared vocals. The second set highlight was a run from “Unbroken Chain” into “Dark Star,” “New Speedway Boogie” and finally “The Other One.” Tonight the group moves to Honolulu for a show at the Hawaii Theatre.
