My Morning Jacket kicked off their One Big Holiday event last night in Mexico with their return to the stage since the appearance at Suwannee Hulaween in October.

Opening with an appropriately political cover of Woody Guthrie’s “This Land is Your Land” before diving into their originals like “I’m Amazed,” “Spring (Among the Living)” and the lighter “Golden” which featured the members of Lucius helping Jim James on vocals. The female vocalists would stay around for a MMJ debut of George Harrison’s “Here Comes the Sun.” Watch a take on that above.

The rest of the set included a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here” out of the band’s jam vehicle “Steam Engine” as well as a “Purple Rain” finale before the band broke for the encore break. The lengthy encore would start with lighter offerings “Bermuda Highway,” The Tennesse Fire‘s “I Will Be There When You Die” and “The Dark” before the band got on with the closing segment that ended with a lengthy “Phone Went West” and a finale of Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone,” another debut from the group.

One Big Holiday continues today with performances from Preservation Hall Jazz Band and MMJ.
