Jack Johnson Shares New Song, Announces Summer Tour Dates

Jack Johnson will embark on a run of tour dates this summer, and the Hawaii-based singer-songwriter has shared a new track, which comes from his score of the documentary The Smog of the Sea.

The new song, “Fragments,” along with the documentary, deal with the growing issue of plastic pollution in the world’s oceans. Johnson spoke with Rolling Stone about the tune and film, along with the ecological issue that is close to his heart. “Every time I step over the tideline as a surfer, I see the amount of plastic that’s starting to gather and the more colorful it’s getting, not in a good way,” Johnson says. “And after a show, I look out and see a sea of plastic–the industry I’m part of is contributing in a major way to this problem. I feel a responsibility.”

Working with fellow Hawaiian and composer Simon Beins, Johnson plans to release a new album before the tour, which kicks off in Chicago on June 2. The unnamed record would be Johnson’s first since 2013’s From Here To Now To You. See the full tour dates and listen to “Fragments” below.
