After two nights at Asheville’s ExploreAsheville.com Arena, Umphrey’s McGee returned to the intimate Orange Peel for their first show at the venue since 2011, which used to be a regular stop on the band’s touring route.

The first set kicked off with a smattering of new tunes like “North Route,” “Cut Off” making appearances early on. One of the bigger bustouts on the night came in the form of “Ride On Pony,” played for the first time since January 31, 2011 at the Brooklyn Bowl. Led Zeppelin’s “Dancing Days” also emerged out of “Mantis” to close the set played for the first time since April 30, 2016 and just the third time ever.

After another new song, “Attachments,” opened the second set, percussionist Andy Farag took to the mic in the middle of “Utopian Fir” for a cover of “Ain’t No Fun,” played for the first time since April 18, 2015. Farag then yielded the mic back to Brendan Bayliss and Jake Cinninger so the group could finish “Utopian” and continue on with their set that included a creative return to “Mantis” out of “The Triple Wide” and yet another new song, “Breaker,” before the “Booth Love” closer.

Umphrey’s return to the road March 1 at The Hive in Sandpoint, ID as their west coast tour kicks off.
