Angelique Kidjo will perform the Talking Heads’ 1980 record Remain in Light in full on May 5 at New York’s Carnegie Hall with a series of special guests slated to join the performance.
Kidjo, who will also tour throughout the year including slots at Bonnaroo, will release her full-reimagining of Remain in Light later this year, with a specified release date forthcoming.
On the inspiration for the performance, Kidjo says that she’s reminded of the first time she came to sing in New York at SOB’s in 1992. “David Byrne came to the show – the first American artist to do so – and we met afterwards,” she recalled. “Not long before, Talking Heads had recorded an album with some of my African musician friends in Paris. I discovered their music at that time and fell in love with Remain In Light.“
