Joe Russo’s Almost Dead played their 100th show last night at the very venue where they played their first show, the Brooklyn Bowl in New York.

Along with their usual dose of Grateful Dead music, the band offered up their very first original on the special night, as “Keeping It Simple” made its debut at the end of the first set. The Joe Russo/Tom Hamilton collaborative tune followed a set that also included “Bertha,” “Help on the Way” and “Slipknot!” that forayed into “Throwing Stones” briefly before finding its way to “New Minglewood Blues.”

Among the highlights in the second set, a lengthy opening “The Music Never Stopped” that included a “Third Stone From the Sun” jam that marked the first time Almost Dead had ventured into the Jimi Hendrix tune. The night closed with notable takes on “Crazy Fingers,” “Estimated Prophet,” “Jack Straw” and “Morning Dew.”

Almost Dead return to the Brooklyn Bowl tonight.
