In a note posted to their Twitter account, the members of Pearl Jam addressed the controversy surrounding their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nod after former drummer Dave Abbruzzese made several comments regarding his exclusion from the group’s induction.

“While awards and accolades are understandably subjective and a countless number of our peers have yet to be honored, we do feel fortunate to be recognized and provided the opportunity to reunite with everyone who has been part of the group,” the handwritten note read. “Specifically the drummers who all left their distinctive mark on our band in the pre-Matt Cameron years.”

Including past drummer Dave Krusen, Matt Chamberlain, Abbruzzese and Jack Irons, the members of Pearl Jam plan to invite all to the induction ceremony as they enter the hall of fame, noting that they are all “individually great players who gave their all to the early recordings and live gigs.”

Abbruzzese pinned much of the fault onto his former bandmates in a series of Facebook posts following the band’s nomination, saying that “like me or not” they should include him. “If there is still a part of the band that remembers how hard we worked—how much blood and how much sweat, they will do the right thing.”

Current drummer Matt Cameron joined the fold in 1998 shortly before their Yield tour as Jack Irons departed. Krusen served as the group’s original drummer before Chamberlain filled in temporarily until Abbruzzese joined on until 1994 when Irons took over.
