Eric Clapton kicked off his brief run of shows at Madison Square Garden last night as the legendary guitarist returns to the stage.

Along with Clapton staples from projects like Cream (“Badge,” “Sunshine of Your Love”), Derek and the Dominoes (“Layla”) and his own work (“Tears in Heaven,” “Wonderful Tonight”), Clapton mixed in some covers like The Wailers’ “I Shot the Sheriff” and a pair of Robert Johnson tunes later in the set.

But for the finale, Clapton welcomed out opening acts Gary Clark Jr. and Jimmie Vaughan who helped the guitairst on Bo Diddley’s “Before You Accuse Me” following the “Sunshine of Your Love” encore starter.

Clapton returns to MSG tonight.
