Activist, author, theologian and blues musician Rev. Osagyefo Sekou will release his debut album, In Times Like These, on May 5 via Thirty Tigers. The album was produced by North Mississippi Allstars’ Luther Dickinson and features his NMA bandmate and brother Cody on drums.

The opening track to the album features an intro from Sekou’s speech he made on the streets of Ferguson, MO, after the killing of Michael Brown. The Southern blues-influenced album includes themes of protest, religion, politics, community and more and features guests like sacred steel master AJ Ghent, vocalist Raina Sokolov, saxophonist Art Edmaiston and trumpeter Marc Franklin.

Sekou will also be touring with North Mississippi Allstars during their May and June dates. See NMA’s tour information here.
