Planetarium, the new collaborative record co-composed by Sufjan Stevens, The National’s Bryce Dessner, Nico Muhly and James McAlister, will arrive on June 9 via 4AD.

The project, which reportedly took several years to complete, came together when the ensemble returned to the previously recorded material in 2016. “We had recorded all the arrangements and the live parts in a studio after our last performance,” says Stevens, “so years later when we all kind of settled down, we said, ‘let’s open Pandora’s box.’”

Stevens and McAlister worked with Muhly’s symphonic arrangements and Dessner’s guitar compositions to fit their own lyrical ideas, thus birthing Planetarium. Watch the video for “Saturn” below.
