Amazon Studios will release Amir Bar-Lev’s Long Strange Trip film theatrically on May 26 in New York and Los Angeles, bringing the four-hour documentary about the Grateful Dead to theaters.

In addition, following its theatrical release, the film will come exclusively to Amazon Prime Video beginning June 2 at no additional cost to Prime customers.

Long Strange Trip marks the first time Amazon Original Movies and Amazon Original Series have partnered on an original project to be released in both theaters and on Prime. Amazon Studios acquired the project ahead of its premiere at Sundance Film Festival.

The film, directed by Amir Bar-Lev with executive producer Martin Scorsese, chronicles the rise of the Grateful Dead from their Bay Area roots to stadiums around the world. In addition, the soundtrack will also be released by Rhino in conjunction with the documentary’s premiere on Amazon Music.
