John Mayer kicked off his tour at the Times Union Center in Albany (coincidentally the same place where Dead & Company launched their first tour) on Friday night with his show that included full band, solo acoustic and John Mayer Trio sets throughout.

The first set saw Mayer team with his full band for cuts like Continuum‘s “Belief” and “I Don’t Trust Myself (With Loving You)” as well as a trio of tunes from his new The Search for Everything including the live debut of “Helpless.”

Mayer then delivered his acoustic set, welcoming drummer Steve Jordan out for “Daughters” before a solo take on “In Your Atmosphere.” Guitarist David Ryan Harris joined him for one of his staple covers—Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin’.”

The Trio set would last three songs, as Pino Palladino and Jordan teamed with Mayer for JM3 song “Who Did You ThinK I Was” as well as an homage to the late Chuck Berry with “Promised Land” and Hendrix’s “Wait Until Tomorrow.”

The full band would return after that to close the show with more recent Mayer outputs “Queen of California” and “Dear Marie” as well as classics like “Why Georgia” and “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” along with a cover of Herbie Hancock’s “Stitched Up.”
