Minneapolis-based jazz trio The Bad Plus have released a statement announcing their founding pianist, Ethan Iverson, will be leaving the group at the end of this year and will be replaced by Orrin Evans.

Evans will officially join the band, which features founding members Reid Anderson on bass and Dave King on drums, on January 1, 2018, with Iverson’s final show with the band coming on New Year’s Eve at New York’s Village Vanguard.

“The Bad Plus have always been a band in the truest sense — a group of passionate collaborators with no single ‘leader,’” the band’s note reads. “That spirt will continue in full-force as we welcome Orrin into the group. This is not an act of replacement; no tryouts were held. We’ve known and respected Orrin as a musician and as a person for longer than The Bad Plus has existed. His heart and and his talents are simply a perfect match to continue our trajectory.”

The Bad Plus have also announced they will be releasing a new album next year. The record is set to be tracked this fall and will feature the new trio lineup.
