Legendary bassist William “Bootsy” Collins announced last week that he will be taking time off the road to receive medical treatment to deal with a tumor in his ear.

Collins, who is best known for his work with George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, posted on his Facebook page about his situation with a positive note to fans (which also included a Monty Python reference): “But all things happen for a reason no matter what it looks like to us. The good news is that I am ready for Heads or Tails. The One prepared me this way. I am not concerned because I know that.”

Collins later posted that he reached out to friend and former Sly and the Family Stone bassist Larry Graham to possibly take over for some of Collins’ canceled dates. Collins also posted today that his usually very active Facebook account will be dormant for a few days. However, the bassist promises fans that he “will be on the Come Back Trail for U & the Funk! Bearhugs & Love! Bootsy baby!!!”
