The Grateful Dead played their first New York engagement at Tompkins Square Park on June 1, 1967 as part of a Manhattan run that also included shows at The Cafe au Go Go. The engagement, which was also the Dead’s first East Coast show, featured opening act Richie Havens and drew over 3,000 fans.

This Thursday Dead tribute band Ice Petal Flowers will celebrate the 50th anniversary of that event with a free show in Tompkins Square Park informed by that Human Be-In from 2pm-6pm. Newguy will also offer a pre-show DJ set.
